At Lamodi area of Offa community in Kwara State is this family of the blind. The family of five live in a world of heart rending squalor at a miserable corner in the area. Three of the four children are visually impaired, except the first child, who claims to be 13, JSS 2 student of Ipe Baptist Grammar School,in Oyun LGA. The three other siblings are; Saidat 12, Ridwan 10 and Hammedat 7, all blind.
This children are living with their grandmother in abject wretchedness of their housing condition. Their mother, Kafaya 38, a widow who lost her husband six years ago,in her remark revealed that she once anticipated family suicide at least to put an end to her hopelessness. She later prayed that God should help her out of the predicament.
It was as if God over reacted to Kafaya’s prayers when her plea got to the Governor of Kwara State, Mallam Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq through the State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Alhaji Tajudeen Folaranmi Aro on Monday 8th of June 2020, and in less than 24 hours, Governor AbdulRazaq approved the immediate disbursement of N1m for the upliftment of the status of this hopeless family. Their supplication was not only granted, the favor surpassed their expectations.
You won’t believe this. Hammedat, the last child, who the mother said was born blind recognizes colours. Ever met a blind who can tell vividly the color of the cloth you are wearing? Maybe with the inner eyes, Hammedat can tell you vividly the type of color of your clothes.
The three blind children have been taken to the Teaching Hospital but their case has been defered till when full consultation resumes at the hospital. For now, only emergencies are attended to.
Alternatively, they would be taken to the recently upgraded Eye clinic at the civil service clinic in Ilorin. Importantly also, they have been enrolled in the Kwara State School for the handicapped.
God bless Governor AbdulRazaq.
